Frequently Asked Questions

Why Scotland?

MADISON (6)_edited.png

When we initially weighed out all our options and ideas for the kind of wedding we wanted to have, we came to the conclusion that a small, meaningful destination wedding that felt like an experience rather than just a single day was by far the most us. We fell in love with Scotland for its stunning scenery, historic charm, and sense of magical escapism. And Madison has always wanted to get married in a real castle!

Can you recommend accommodation near the venue?

There are a very limited number of cottages available on castle grounds. Currently, the Garden HouseArdlochan Lodge, and South Segganwell cottages are still available. Note: the website will list them as unavailable due to the block we've placed on them.

If you're interested in booking a cottage, please email Janis at jcairns@nts.org.uk with your cottage selection, dates, and make sure to mention you are booking for the

Madison Harrold/Tyler Pipher wedding to receive our discounted rate! If you do book a cottage, please make sure to let us know so we can mark it as unavailable on our website!

For additional accommodation, there are a few stunning hotel options nearby, such as: The Fairfield HotelWildings HotelBrig o'Doon House Hotel, and the Trump Turnberry Hotel.

We'd also recommend checking out Airbnb or Vrbo listings in the Maybole or Turnberry areas for more unique, charming stays!

What airport should I fly into?

There are two major airports in Scotland. The closer option is Glasgow at about 1 hour by car to Culzean Castle. Edinburgh, although a bit further at about 1 hour and 40 minutes by car, does have a better selection of direct flights.

Do I need a passport or visa to travel to Scotland?

No visa is required, but you will need a passport that is valid for a minimum of 6 months after your travel dates per UK requirements, so please make sure to double check that your passport does not have an expiration date

prior to December 2026!

Should I rent a car?

Lyft is not available in the UK, and Uber is limited only to major cities, like Glasgow or Edinburgh. Culzean Castle is located in a slightly more rural part of Scotland, so unfortunately Uber will not be available. However, to get around locally, you can utilize Streamline Taxis - they even have their own app on the Apple and Google Play store!

Is Uber/Lyft available?

We highly recommend renting a car if you’re comfortable doing so (they drive on the opposite side of the road)! Culzean Castle and the surrounding area are a bit more rural, and having a car will give you much more flexibility to explore nearby towns, coastal drives, and scenic spots at your own pace.

Absolutely! If you're more comfortable staying in or using your time to explore a larger city, that is absolutely an option! No pressure to stay on site - we will see you on the big day!

Can I stay in Glasgow or Ayr and travel in on the wedding day?

Yes! We are allowing all of our single guests to bring a plus-one - we'd never expect you to travel all this way alone! Just make sure to include them in your RSVP so we can count their seat and meal.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Your little ones are more than welcome to join us! If they can make it through the extensive travel, then they have more than earned their spot! Just make sure to include them in your RSVP and whether or not they will require a children's meal or high chair

Are children invited?

Yes, but only if you want to! We will have a professional photographer and content creator present to take our wedding photos and videos, so we encourage everyone to enjoy yourselves and be in the moment - but if that includes taking photos, you are more than welcome to!

Can I take photos during the wedding?

Plan to give yourself a little extra time if you can! Our hope is that our guests take our wedding and turn it into a magical, once-in-a-lifetime trip! We recommend checking out visitscotland.com to get a sense of what you want to see, and check out their travel tips.

How can I make the most of my trip to Scotland?

Yes! The dress code, along with the schedule for the day, can be found on the Details page of our website.

Is there a dress code for the wedding?

Due to the historic nature of Culzean Castle, the venue advises against stiletto heels to protect the historic floor surfaces and coverings. You may also want to keep in mind that you may be walking across cobblestone paths and grass. However, should you need them, we will be providing heel caps on the wedding day (the bride will need them, too!).

Are heels suitable for the venue?

If I can't physically attend, will there be a livestream of the ceremony?

We completely understand that traveling to Scotland for our wedding is a big ask, and if that does not make it possible for you to attend. We are happy to include anyone remotely via FaceTime call if they wish, or if there is enough of a demand for it, we can absolutely look into setting up an official livestream! Just let us know so we can coordinate something for you, and thank you so much for wanting to be a part of our big day!
